Jo Doyle

                                                                                           has worked in Christchurch as a Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist since 1996. After completing a BA she trained as a primary school teacher at Christchurch Teachers’ College and taught in Te Anau before travelling overseas.

She taught in inner city London for three years. On returning to New Zealand she completed a 3 year post-graduate clinical diploma in Child Psychotherapy at the Wellington School of Medicine.

Jo then returned to Christchurch to take up the position of Child Psychotherapist at the Child and Family Mental Health Outpatient Clinic for the Christchurch District Health Board in 1996.

Jo has worked in both private and public sectors. As she has been based in Ōtautahi/Christchurch Jo has developed specialist skills in working with children who have experienced multiple forms of trauma.

Jo’s work focuses on assessing the needs of the child and family, using verbal and non verbal techniques (play and art) she considers the child within their unique whanau/family system – then in collaboration with the parents provides a tailored psychodynamic treatment approach.

She represents Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy on the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal (assuring quality of care under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act, 2003 ).

She is also the president of the New Zealand Association of Child & Adolescent Psychotherapists. Jo has presented at workshops and for various different organisations. In 2018 she presented her work at the International Childhood Trauma Conference in Melbourne.

Jo works from her offices in

Blackheath, Sydenham, Christchurch.

She accepts referrals from GPs, Te Whatu Ora, Schools, Oranga Tamariki and private individuals. She works with children from 3 to 18 years of age. Jo has some discretionary funding for families in financial need.
